What are some signs that I need to visit the dentist?
We recommend visiting the dentist once every six months, regardless of whether you have any negative symptoms. Most dental issues can be resolved early on, and only get worse over time if left untreated. However, if you have experienced recent tooth loss, tooth pain, tooth sensitivity, receding gums, or dry mouth, it is definitely time to make your next appointment.
What happens during a routine dentist appointment?
You will be asked about your previous dental care, including any oral procedures you’ve had. Then, your mouth will be cleaned by a hygienist and examined by the doctor. If any issues are found, you will be presented with the appropriate treatment plans necessary to resolve them.
We recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit around their third birthday. At this age, children are usually ready for a happy visit where they can meet the dentist, see the chair, and become familiar with the sights and sounds of the office. It often helps if a parent or older sibling has their appointment first—little ones love to watch and learn. Seeing a family member go first helps your child feel comfortable and confident for their own turn.
